Water Wars | Glowyr
“What makes you think that we would willingly thirst to death, so that you can water the green lawns of Surbiton?”
The forced damming of the Tryweryn River by the city of Liverpool in the 1960s re-awakened the desire for self-determination within Wales. Forty years on, it arguably led directly to devolution. In Water Wars, England invades Wales in order to appropriate its resources and to sustain its own ecology. Water Wars is an eco-thriller with great relevance for the communities of Wales, both now and in the past.
Ian Rowlands is an internationally known playwright from Carmarthen. His plays include Marriage of Convenience, Troyanne, Love in Plastic, Blue Heron in the Womb, The Sin Eaters, Glissando on an Empty Harp, and Aurora Borealis.
Water Wars is fully bilingual and will use the Sibrwd translation app in collaboration with Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru.
